Topic: Opinions

After the migrating from PostNukes to PHP-Nukes, an idea of writing this opinion abruptly came up to my mind. Is PostNuke another fork that worth using? or just stick with PHP-Nuke. Find out here.

Let me start with a brief introduction of what PHP-Nuke and PostNuke are even though I know most of our readers know exactly what they are. Before I start writing, I think it'd be nice for me to clear something up. This opinion is totally my point of views, which means it is absolutely nothing to do with both of the scripts contributors. Hence, I hope that my readers will direct their comments to me, but not to PostNuke or PHP-Nuke. You can reach me at eric@linuxmax.net or eric@3mnetwork.com.

PHP-Nukes & PostNuke:

It's a web portal system or anything you'd prefer to call it; in short, it's just an open source script that provide a better environment for web admins or editorsto contribute and post their articles, comments, or anything on the web.

Rogue 0.713 Released:

Obviously, they've had a great improvement from a previos version. The version has gone through an extensive testing before it was out from the lab, and most of the people say the new released is the most stable. PostNuke team has identified that many bugs in the previous version has been fixed.

PHP-Nukes:

PHP-Nuke is not far behind, too. Since the release of version 5.5, many peoplehave beenmigrating from PostNuke to PHP-Nuke, like me, because in some parts of source codes, PHP-Nuke offer a greater and more reliable functions and features.

Announcement of Rogue 0.713:

Security issue is still the most attractive direction that most people are looking in. Many of the enhancements in version .71 are pretty much related to this topic. Hence, contributors in PostNuke have realized that instead of waiting any security patches, they're now offering a better script that are very secure against to some common or uncommon attacks.

PostNuke performance has been greatly enhanced by optimization of many portions of the codebase. The core has now almost completely undergone the rewrite, with just odds and ends to replace. This rewrite has done away with many of the old legacy code that slowed performance, and created a nightmare for support.

Besides the concentration putting on security and performance, PostNuke managed to squeeze in a few new features that made a lot easier for the admin control panel.

Quite a bit of work has been done with the modules system. It starts with the above mentioned API, but affects many things. There may be some slight changes because of our prefix change in the database to pn for all fields, but other than that most modules should work.

PHP-Nuke 5.5:

Honestly speaking, I won't write much about PHP-Nuke because I am sort of newbie that just started using it. The concept is that I do not need to know too much about sql and html, and everything comes along with the package, pretty much i can say it suits to newbie for a good starting point to manage a big site with this portal system, or to some advance users and experts to change the features and modify it as a contribution or personal usage.

New features comes with:

- Top Menu for Submit, Archives, Topics and Categories
- Bottom Page numbers
- Convenient popup printing option
- Multicolumn display
- Multilang constants enabled in stories titles/body [(c)evaldef function]

Let's anticipate for the next version of both scripts ang I wish you guys could have a better direction of which scripts that you'd go for in the future. Please kindly send me your recommendation and comments to me.

Good luck.
