Blue Linux makes a push to help with Linux Standards. As Linux evolves some standards need to be put into place. We ask that a wide variety of Linux users, Programmers , and Designers get involved in this project.

We have created a Common Linux Installer Group (CLIG) that will design and develop a Standard for Linux Installers. We will develop a Linux Installer that will be GPL'ed and we will push Distributors to move to this installation program.

The reasons for this group is simple. We are coming to a Linux Milestone as more and more users are switching to Linux for Workstations and Servers. CLIG feels that if a common interface is used for installation of many distributions this can only help Linux grow and exceed what it is currently doing. While choice is a big plus to Linux some standards do need to be in place.

For example User A decides to install a Distribution the boot disk does not recognize his/her CDROM drive. However he/she decides to try another Distribution this one recognizes his/her CDROM drive. With a Common Linux Installer this can be avoided. There are tons of resources at every Distribution faced with creating an Installation program or Modifying the existing Install. For Example Red Hat works on Anaconda , Mandrake works on DrakX, while others work on others. If all these resources are pulled together a solid Installer can be formed.

Also with this being under the GPL many smaller distributions can benefit from this Organization. There are many small distributions that are very strong in ways but they do not have Installers to push the way into the users hands.

Why is Blue Linux Interested in the Founding of this Group. Blue Linux is a Distribution that is in the means of Planning the Development of an Installation program. We feel we do not want to waste our resources on developing a proprietary installer and it not benefit the Open Source Community at Large.
