20,000 Organizations Using Likewise Software

BELLEVUE, Wash., January 22, 2009 – As corporate networks became more diverse with increasing numbers of Mac and Linux users, Likewise Software, the leader in open source authentication and auditing for mixed networks, enjoyed a record year by ensuring that Unix, Linux, and Mac computers can be integrated securely into a company’s IT infrastructure.

The company reported 20,000 organizations now using Likewise software and revenue increasing by 500 percent year-over-year. In addition, the open source company received four industry awards and announced agreements with HP, IBM, Oracle and Sun -- adding to existing relationships with Apple, Microsoft, Novell, Red Hat, and Ubuntu.

"Likewise had a banner year on all fronts outpacing our industry and competitors in revenue and customer growth, strategic partnerships, as well as widespread adoption of Likewise Open," said Barry Crist, CEO of Likewise Software. "We deliver more value for less money with faster deployment schedules. Our open source business model is working effectively in the current difficult economic environment."

At year-end, the company reported that more than 250 enterprise customers using either Likewise Enterprise or Likewise Open with support contracts.

"Likewise Open enables SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop to operate as a well-integrated solution in a Windows-centric environment," said Carlos Montero-Luque, vice president of product management for Open Platform Solutions at Novell. "The relationship with Likewise is an important component that helps us deliver the best-engineered and most interoperable Linux platform from the desktop to the data center. This combination of solutions allows our customers to work seamlessly in mixed Linux and Windows environments."

“Likewise enables choice for our customers,” said Katrinka McCallum, vice president, Management Business at Red Hat. "Use of the high-performance Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating platform is expanding in historically Windows-centric organizations, and our collaboration with Likewise has helped to augment our efforts."

Likewise software integrates Linux, Unix, and Mac computers with Microsoft Active Directory to provide a single, secure framework for authentication and access control in mixed networks. With Likewise, system administrators can manage all their computers -- Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac – from a central location.

"Likewise has a clear lead in terms of the merits of the product, its business model, and in the technical capabilities of its team," said John Matthew, IT project manager at NBC Universal. "It has unique native support of key platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and the Macintosh, that make Likewise a great choice for large organizations."

In 2008, the company introduced Likewise Enterprise 5.0 and the Likewise Fall 08 version of its open source software based on the company’s next-generation Likewise Identity Service (LWIS). The software supports 118 platforms. The company also acquired rights to the website domain, www.likewise.com.
