Investment increases Germanys Collax Series A investment to $8.4 million

San Francisco/Munich 7 February 2006 Collax, a European vendor of Linux-based server technology, announced today that Intel Capital has invested as part of the companys Series A investment round, bringing the total investment to $8.4 million. Previous investors in the round include Atlas Venture Partners and Wellington Partners.
Collax will use the funds to expand its rollout in Europe and enter the U.S. market in Q3 2006 -- capitalizing on the increasing customer demand for low cost, easy-to-use open source-based server solutions.
Collaxs key product -- the Collax Business Server -- integrates critical security, network infrastructure and communication functions via a transparent and user-friendly interface. Server functionality includes file, email, fax, proxy and web servers in addition to routers and VPNs and security applications such as firewalls, anti-virus servers, anti-spam and web content filters. All this functionality is accessed via a transparent and user-friendly interface, shielding the user from the complexity of Linux and the best-of-breed open source components that comprise the Collax solution. No Linux knowledge is required to install and run the Collax Business Server.

The IDC study The Linux Marketplace estimates that the open source server market is growing at 26 percent -- expected to reach a volume of $11 billion in 2008. The adoption of simple, low cost, easy-to-use open source solutions will expand the market and accelerate growth, says Olaf Jacobi, chief executive officer, Collax. We plan to specifically address this SMB market opportunity as we are currently in Europe -- with an expected US launch in Q3 2006.

Collaxs product and sales strategy is clearly focused on the needs of the small to medium sized business, says Klaus Konrad, Investment Manager at Intel Capital. We are excited about working with Collax as it continues to expand its customer base, accelerating deployment of dedicated solutions for this market segment.
