JetBrains Provides Free IntelliJ IDEA Licenses to Open Source Community

Always happy to give support to non-commercial projects, JetBrains invites all Open Source projects to apply for FREE license keys for industry leading Java IDE, IntelliJ IDEA. This expanded JetBrains support initiative to the Open Source community will enable many more Open Source project developers a choice where selection of development tools is concerned.

This initiative implies that JetBrains will grant IDEA licenses to projects that:
- are open source
- have a devoted web-site
- have an established, vital and active community

Developers taking part in the JetBrains Open Source support initiative will no longer need to search for necessary plug-ins or struggle with third- party developer integrations for their projects. Instead, participants will now be able to use JetBrains' professional, commercial-grade tools with everything they need in one intelligent IDE, dramatically improving their productivity and quality of code. Participants will also have the security of ongoing support and maintenance from JetBrains and its dedicated team of first-rate, industry renowned developers in support of their Open Source projects.

JetBrains has a long history of assisting and supporting Open Source projects because it knows how important it is for developers to have a choice in how they approach Java development. This expansion is a natural next step in its support and will provide even more Open Source developers with an opportunity to use IntelliJ IDEA.

To participate in the JetBrains Open Source Support Program and acquire a free IntelliJ IDEA user license, a developer must be a contributor to an active and vital Open Source project that is recognized within the global Open Source community. Licenses will be valid for one year and will cover all product upgrades during this period. Annual renewals will be required for continued use to ensure that the project is still "alive".
