4th Feb, 2005 (Gurgaon, India): Daffodil Software today announced the stable release of version 4.0 of its popular Java database - Daffodil DB.

Daffodil DB is a J2EE-certified, JDBC 3.0 and SQL 99 compliant Java database. It has been designed to handle complex computing environments that demand a robust, scalable and high-performance RDBMS that can operate across platforms.

The new version enhances speed and adds key features geared towards developing Daffodil DB as the solution for mission-critical and enterprise-class applications. The most significant advancement made in this version is the compatibility with Compiere, an advanced level Open Source ERP + CRM solution. The fact that till date no other database apart from Oracle is compatible with Compiere, highlights for the first time, the ability of a Java database to compete with the best that the enterprise database market has to offer. As promised, this version of Daffodil DB has been made available to the Compiere community for free.

In addition to several performance enhancements, the major features introduced in Daffodil DB v4.0 are:

Support for User Defined Functions - This feature allows for the creation of user-defined functions for business logic implementation. User defined functions can be used as value expressions in Select, Insert, Update, Delete and also in Procedures.

Support for Updatable Views - With this feature, users can update views using update query. Updation will be performed on the base table of the view.

Support for scalar sub-query - Scalar sub-query is a query which returns a single column with one single row. In the new version, support for scalar sub-query in select list of select query has been introduced. Further, sub-query column can be sorted using Order By clause.

Scalar Functions - Number of new scalar functions have been introduced in this version.

For the full list of features and functionalities that are introduced in Daffodil DB v4.0 please see the release notes.
