MozDex: "The only way one can be certain that search results are unbiased is if the technology which computes them is public."

mozDex uses "open source search technologies to create an open and fair index." The engine behind the website is developed by the Nutch team.

The number of search engine is decreasing and some people fear that a monopoly will "not be good for users of the internet."

The new search engine has the same layout as Google. A new feature is a link explaining the ranking of an url. It is also having sponsored links the same way Google has. You can also donate money or equipment. The spider is using two names: mozDex and mozDexOrg. dmoz.org is used to seed the engine. You can add your website to be spidered using the common "Add URL" feature.

The search results are of average quality but the moxDex team hopes that this will improve. "We hope it will be better. With developers and researchers from around the world helping out, we hope to be able to surpass the quality of what any single company can do."

Try your next search at mozDex!
