Packages Tracked by DistroWatch

Last Update: Thursday 9 December 2004 22:24 GMT

Introduction and Notes
This is the list of current stable packages tracked by DistroWatch, the latest versions and some notes and explanations where applicable. Some developers choose to be very ambiguous about what is stable and what is still in development. Package name capitalisation, even names themselves can vary between distributions. The capitalisation used here is equivalent to the "packagename" part in the "packagename-version.extension" that most open source developers use by convention, which sometimes differs from the "official" name (e.g. openssl-0.9.6f.tar.gz vs OpenSSL). Please report any errors or suggestions.

The following web sites specialise in tracking open source software releases:
Freshmeat http://freshmeat.net/
IceWalkers http://icewalk.com/
SourceWell http://sourcewell.berlios.de/

Important! The list of tracked packages is reviewed annually (in June) based on readers' suggestions. If you'd like to have a package included outside of the annual revision date, a fee of US$100.00 will be charged and your suggested package will be included within 24 hours after receiving the payment. If the fee sounds steep, please consider how much work it takes to extract the information from over 200 different distributions, some of which have released ten or more versions. For details of payment methods, please visit the advertising page.

• Current shortlist of packages earmarked for inclusion in June 2004: audacity, bochs, firefox, module-init-tools, yum, zero-install.
• Current shortlist of packages earmarked for removal in June 2004: gnome-core, netkit-base, netscape, wu-ftpd.
• Current list of packages with modified names: ghostscript --> gnughostscript, lvm --> LVM2, qmail --> netqmail, sane --> sane-backends.
