Jurgen Hanson writes "On its Web site Borland states that they are going to abondon the Borland DatabaseEngine in the first Linux version of Delphi called Kylix. Because the BDE is too bulky, too slow and to complicated to install and configure Borland conceived a newlightweight database access layer called dbExpress. As far as we know until nowdbExpress drivers included in the final release of Delphi for Linux will comprise onlyOracle, MySQL and Interbase. The question now is, what strategy is appropriate fordevelopers wanting to port their Windows/BDE applications to Linux?"
