@ LWN.net: "Python 2.1.1 was released today. This is the final version of this bugfix release for Python 2.1, and should be fully compatible with Python 2.1. There should be *no* reason to use 2.1 any more."

Cox writes, "So far so good, but still treat this one with care. We now use the official VIA workaround for the southbridge bugs. That should fix the ES137x/SB PCI problems on VIA and some other stuff without breaking the IDE corruption fix. The i810 security hole is now patched too."

Linux software maker Ximian has released tools that will help other open source programmers start cloning the infrastructure behind Microsoft's .NET initiative.The source code for the project, dubbed Mono, has been made available to download for free at the company's web site from 9 July.
